2010
ANNUAL REPORT
BOY
SCOUT TROOP #782
SUNSET
DISTRICT - GREAT LAKES COUNCIL BSA
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church has sponsored Boy Scout Troop
#782, since March 1, 2009 when we moved from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, our
sponsor since the troop began 55 years ago.
We have 94 boys from Livonia and surrounding communities.
The Adult Troop Leaders' Council works to support the troop
activities, which are not fully financed by the boys, and to partially fund the
several boys each year who cannot afford to participate.
The 6th Annual Golf Outing funded our scholarship grants to three
graduating Eagle Scouts. The troop also financially supports Leadership Training
Programs for older boys and funds the Wood Badge Course for our
registered leaders. All Adult TLC
members and merit badge counselors complete the BSA Youth Protection training
sessions offered on-line by the Great Lakes Area Council.
In 2010 we built the Scout Garage and Pavilion on the church grounds ~ a
project that we've talked about for some 25 years is now a reality.
Our yearly activity calendar sometimes has two outdoor
programs a month, as we continue to emphasize the Boy Scout outdoor and
advancement program. 2010 has been no different than other years.
Courts of Honor were held in February, June and November.
We have had 258 Eagle Scouts in our 56 years as a troop ~ twelve in 2010. Our newest Eagle Scouts are:
R. Joseph Rauen, Derek Wenderlich, Matthew Andrus, Scott Kliman, Benjamin
Puninske, John Yurgil, Kevin Riedy, Jerome Schlaff, Connor Seay, Linus Ziemba,
Nathan Collins and Burke Culkeen.
During 2010, 36 boys and 8 adult leaders spent a week at
Camp Pioneer in Pioneer, Ohio, working on merit badges and other scouting
activities. 33 boys and parents
spent a long February weekend visiting the Space Center in Huntsville, AL, the
Hermitage and Grand Old Opry in Nashville, KY, Mammoth Cave and Fort Knox in KY.
In July, a group of 41 took a 16-day trip to West Virginia for
white-water rafting, and down the east coast to the Florida Sea Base where they
sailed and fished and snorkeled the coral reefs of the Florida Keys.
In August, nine boys and leaders attended the Scouting Centennial
National Jamboree in Virginia for 8 days.
We continue to take part in various service projects at
Greenmead, and for Holy Trinity Church, for the Friends of the Library Used Book
Sale, the Goodfellows' Canned Food Drive, Christmas Greens for St. Andrews,
canned food drive for the Holy Trinity Food Cupboard and projects collecting
used cell phones and used eyeglasses. Our
boys' Eagle Projects have taken troop members into various service areas all
over Livonia, as well as Canton, Plymouth, Redford, and Detroit.
We are preparing for another year of fun and high adventure
out-of-doors in 2011. Our February
Mid-Winter trip will be to Chicago, IL and environs.
Our annual high adventure will be a 16-day trip by train to the Philmont
Scout Ranch in New Mexico, where scouts and leaders will backpack for 11 days in
the Sangre de Christo Mts.
Our meetings are held every Monday night in the Holy
Trinity Activity Hall, from 7:30- 9:00 p.m.
Any boys in the area, or in the parish, who are eleven years old, or who
have completed the fifth grade are welcome to attend.
